I customized colors for my clients, but if I’m being honest, I rarely stopped to truly personalize them. Yes, the color was well done and tailored—but most of the time, my focus was limited to surface-level matching, often concentrating on select aspects of the client’s features, rather than understanding the full picture of harmony. What I’ve come to realize is this: there is a profound difference between custom and personalized. I was creating beautiful hair, absolutely—but was I truly creating for them? Or was I simply focused on achieving a ‘pretty’ result or recreating an inspiration photo? Everything changed when I took my first Color Analysis class. It completely transformed the way I see color, undertone, harmony, and the client experience as a whole. I began to understand just how much I had been missing— not only technically, but artistically. Trends will always come and go, but something that is deeply personal will always remain timeless. Color Analysis taught me that luxury hair is not about copying a formula or chasing what’s trending. It’s about connection. It’s about harmony. It’s about understanding the client sitting in front of you and creating something intentionally designed for them—their undertone, their contrast, their chroma, their value, their natural essence. This approach elevates everything: the consultation, the communication, the confidence, the grow-out, and ultimately, the result. My passion for education has expanded marginally, to now include a focus on helping other stylists develop the eye to truly see these subtleties—to recognize the difference between warm, neutral-warm, neutral-cool, and cool, and to understand how undertone is only the beginning of the conversation.
